Designed by Christian Gobrecht, these coins displayed a smaller, revised depiction of Liberty. Her hair was placed in a loose bun with braiding around the forehead and temples – a departure from earlier designs, which showed Liberty wearing a cap. The reverses show an eagle with a shield, clutching arrows and olive branches in its talons.
