1931-1969 Switzerland Silver 5 Francs

This half-dollar-size 5 Francs recalls the Swiss hero William Tell. According to legend, Tell, the archer, defied bailiff's orders and was forced to shoot an apple from his son's head. Struck in 83.5% silver, this Swiss 5 Francs displays William Tell on the obverse, a design used since 1922, and the Swiss arms, denomination and mint mark on the reverse. This classic was replaced by a cupro-nickel coin, making it the last Swiss silver 5 Francs.
