When the 1830 Capped Bust half dollar was being struck at the Philadelphia Mint, Andrew Jackson was serving as the seventh U.S. president, and the population of the country stood at 12,866,020 people. While the obverse and reverse designs of the Capped Bust half are typical depictions of Liberty and the national symbol, the eagle, the Capped Bust halves of 1807 through late 1836 are unusual in bearing edge lettering, which reads fifty cents or half a dollar.
