1909-1917 Italy Copper 1 Centesimo
Capture a fascinating period of Italian and European history with this historic Centesimo, issued between 1909-1917. Dating back at least 89 years, each Uncirculated copper coin was struck at the very beginning of the Italian Kingdom, under Victor Emmanuel III. When he ascended the Italian throne in 1900, Victor Emmanuel III inherited the most robust economy in Europe; but it was not to last. In 1943, he fled the country, just ahead of the advancing German army. He died in Egypt in 1947, leaving his kingdom and many loyal subjects behind. The reverse of this historic coin features Victory standing on a ship's prow, holding an olive branch symbolizing peace. The obverse depicts the profile of Victor Emmanuel III. A great coin, and a great addition to any collection.
