Germanicus was the nephew of Emperor Tiberius, and father of future Emperor Caligula. He successfully campaigned in Germany for two years, recovering some of the legionary standards lost in battle by his predecessor. In A.D. 17, he was made consul, and soon went to Antioch, Syria, to settle problems in the eastern territories. While there, Germanicus became sick and died. It was believed he had been poisoned by the governor. All coins were struck after his death.
