Liberty Cap half cents, along with large cents, were the first coins struck by the U.S. Mint – introduced in 1793, the first year for U.S. coin production. Some 1795 half cents (and all 1793-1794 half cents) bear the edge description two hundred for a dollar. In addition, the obverse of some 1795 coins features a pole extending across Liberty's shoulder to the liberty cap behind her. This 1795 half cent with Lettered Edge and With Pole is highly prized by collectors.
