The sought-after 1807 Draped Bust half cent was struck in copper at the Philadelphia Mint during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson. Half Cents, along with Large Cents, hold the distinction of being the first coins ever struck by the U.S. Mint. These were the only coins issued in 1793 (other denominations would be introduced in the next few years). The Draped Bust design appears on half cents of 1800-1808, depicting Liberty with flowing hair and a ribbon. Her plunging neckline is covered with drapery.
