Struck in 89.24% silver at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1827 Capped Bust half dollar exhibits two different styles of 2s in the date. One type has a straight horizontal base, or Square Base, as offered here. The other has a curved base, or Curl Base. The 1827 half dollar was minted during the one-term presidency of John Quincy Adams. Though not elected to a second term in 1828, he went on to serve 17 years in the U.S. House of Representatives.
