This 90% silver coin was struck by the Philadelphia Mint more than 150 years ago. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse features Liberty seated on a rock, framed by 13 stars. She holds a shield with her right hand and a pole with a liberty cap in her left. The reverse depicts an eagle perched on an olive branch and holding three arrows. In the year 1847, gunmaker Samuel Colt received an order from the U.S. government for 1,000 of his revolving pistols, and the United States issued its first postage stamps. That same year, inventor Thomas A. Edison and outlaw Jesse James were born. Recall these historic events - add this 1847 Liberty Seated silver dollar to your collection today!
