Customer Reviews
The 1853 half dollar is a highlight of the Liberty Seated series, featuring two very short-lived design elements. From 1853 to 1855, the weight of half dollars was marginally reduced, because the melt value of the silver was greater than the face value of the coins. To denote the reduced-weight coins, arrows were placed on each side of the date during 1853-1855, and rays surrounded the eagle on 1853 half dollars only.
