The obverse features Liberty seated on a rock, framed by 13 stars. She holds a shield with her right hand and a pole with a liberty cap in her left. The reverse depicts an eagle perched on an olive branch and holding three arrows. Above the eagle is a banner with the motto in god we trust, which was added in 1866.
