1886 Liberty Head $5 Gold

The 1886 Liberty Head $5 gold pieces (or half eagles) were struck during the year that the Statue of Liberty was erected and dedicated in New York harbor. These coins bear no mint mark, being produced at the main U.S. Mint in Philadelphia (mint marks were used only on branch mint issues in the 1800s). This Liberty design was used on $5 gold coins from 1839 to 1908, with the motto "in God we trust" added to the reverse partway through 1866.
