This issue of the 1908-1929 Indian Head $5 gold piece bears the "S" mint mark of the San Francisco Mint, which in 1906 was one of few San Francisco buildings to survive a massive earthquake and fire. The Indian Head $5 gold coin was designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, who utilized an unprecedented incuse design - featuring devices etched in relief below the surface of the coin. The 1910-S is a prized memento of the early 20th century.
