Printed with delicate blue, lilac and green ink, this historic 1939 Greek 500 Drachmai note was withdrawn from circulation after the 1941 German invasion and subsequent occupation during WWII. The front features a woman in traditional Greek attire in the cameo at left. Demeter, the goddess of agriculture, may be seen in the watermark in the cameo at right. The back center motif features sailboats and the island of Poros; the cameo at right depicts a bust of Demeter. A historic gift at an affordable price!
