1943-1945 Canada Victory Nickels Set

Get a 3-year set of 1943-45 Canadian 5¢ coins struck in special alloys with a unique design during WWII to save nickel for the war effort. Known as “Victory Nickels,” the coins were minted in Tombac brass during 1943 and in chrome-plated steel during 1944 and 1945. The special reverse bears a flaming torch over a large “V” within the date representing both victory and the Roman numeral five. Along the 12-sided rim is a Morse code message inspirational to home front war production – “We win when we work willingly.” After these special 1943-45 wartime issues, the traditional beaver image returned to the reverse of Canadian nickels in 1946.

The obverse depicts King George VI, ruler of the British Commonwealth from 1936 until his death in 1952 and father of Queen Elizabeth II.
