Struck in 90% silver at the San Francisco Mint, the 1943-S Mercury dime is a prized keepsake from World War II America. During 1943, American forces pushed the Japanese from Guadalcanal in the Pacific, while Allied forces landed in Sicily and the boot of Italy in the European theater. Meanwhile, American bombers began hitting targets in both Italy and Germany. The 1943-S Mercury dime was circulating on the home front, where production of military armaments occupied much of the work force.
