This 2002 bicentennial commemorative silver dollar honors 200 years of West Point's tradition of duty, honor and country. Established on March 16,1802 by Thomas Jefferson, the prestigious military academy has graduated many notable American leaders, including Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant and Dwight D. Eisenhower. The obverse of this 90% silver coin shows the academy's cadet color guard in parade exercises. West Point Washington Hall and the Cadet Chapel are seen in the background. The reverse features the West Point Bicentennial logo, adapted from the academy's seal. Struck at the U.S. West Point branch mint, located on land that was once part of this famed academy, and bears the "W" mint mark.
