Flavius Theodosius was born about A.D. 346, son of Count Theodosius, a famous army commander. In A.D. 379, Emperor Gratian made Theodosius emperor of the east. After he pacified the Gotheic invaders of those regions, he went to Italy to defeat and execute a rebel named Maximus, who had killed Gratian. Six years later, Theodosius killed another rebel, Eugenius, who had killed Gratian`s successor. This left Theodosius sole emperor, but he died a few months later.
