Five Cent Military Payment Certificate

If you collect America's paper money, are a history buff, or just want to add lots of color to your collection, you'll want this Military Payment Certificate (MPC). Used by U.S. troops abroad in the post-WWII era, these notes were issued by the Department of Defense, and today have all been retired.

To avoid black market operations or speculation, surprise was essential. Without notice, establishments accepting MPCs (military exchanges, post offices, etc.) would close while soldiers swapped an older series for new. All told, 13 different Payment Certificate series were issued – now all obsolete.

With this historic note, 5¢ MPC issued between the WWII and Vietnam eras – today, no longer used anywhere in the world. Loaded with color and attractive designs, this note hasn't been issued since 1973.
